Raku Pottery Experience

You will get to glaze 3 pots that are ready for glazeing

About the class

Raku pottery is a unique and dramatic form of ceramic art that originated in 16th-century Japan. It involves firing pottery quickly at a low temperature, then removing it from the kiln while it’s still red-hot and cooling it rapidly—often in combustible materials like sawdust or newspaper. The result is unpredictable, smoky, crackled, and often metallic-looking glaze effects. Apply Raku Glaze • Use glazes specially formulated for raku firing, which often contain metallic oxides. • Apply by brushing, • You can leave some areas unglazed to allow for smoky black carbon markings in those spots. Raku Firing This is the dramatic part. Safety gear is essential (leather gloves, eye protection, long sleeves, and tongs). You will take away 3 pots on the day. You can purchase more pots if you want from £10 up We do are best to make sure your pots come out of the kiln good. But can’t guarantee if a pots blow up in the kiln. You could find bits on your pots. Also if it your pot that blows up you will not get it. This is outside our control. It what potter have to put up with.
